FFRF keeps anti-bullying prevention secular in La. School (April 9, 2013)

The Freedom From Religion Foundation ensured religious songs would not be included in programs at a grade school in Crowley, La.

A concerned parent of a student at Mire Elementary contacted FFRF after a play promoting anti-bullying included a Christian song.

FFRF Staff Attorney Elizabeth Cavell contacted Acadia Parish Schools Superintendent John Bourque in a Feb. 28 letter requesting religious and Christian messages be removed from presentations at the school.

“While we applaud the efforts of your school district to prevent bullying, it is wholly inappropriate for a public school to teach songs with blatantly Christian and religious messages in a public school setting,” Cavell said.

Bourque responded in a March 21 letter that similar incidents would not occur in the future.
