FFRF gives Texas school the gift of constitutional literacy (June 28, 2013)

The Freedom From Religion Foundation removed an unconstitutional cross from a Texas high school’s office.

FFRF Staff Attorney Elizabeth Cavell contacted Millsap Independent School District Superintendent in a June 13 letter. She explained the cross display is illegal and requested its removal. A cross display in a public school is an unconstitutional government endorsement or Christianity over other religions and religion over non-religion, she wrote.

The District’s legal counsel responded on June 28 that the cross was originally allowed in the school because it was a gift from a private individual. He said the cross has been removed “and is no longer on public display.”
