Action Alert

Call your senator to stop DeVos today!

Tell your senator on confirmation committee to reject DeVos

1devosYou can help pressure the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions not to approve Betsy DeVos as secretary of education. If you live in a state with a Republican senator on the HELP Committee, we are asking specifically for your help in taking action against DeVos.

The committee vote is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 31, morning. The Democrats on the committee have announced they plan to vote as a bloc not to confirm DeVos. If just one Republican senator changes his or her vote and rejects DeVos, her nomination will be killed.

Please contact your senator now to vote against the DeVos nomination. There is a national campaign to target the committee, so you can help make a difference! (If you live in Maine, represented by Republican Susan Collins, please be sure to act. She's considered the most likely to dissent from the party line.)

DeVos is unqualified for her nominated position and would use tax money to fund vouchers for private, mostly religious, schools. She is a Christian evangelist who has said that she hopes to use education to "advance God's Kingdom." We must preserve our public schools, where the values of truth, fact, and reason are learned and fostered.
