Ask the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology to recognize Charles Darwin as a symbol for scientific achievement by supporting House Resolution 44, or the Darwin Day Resolution.
Introduced by Rep. Jim Himes, D-Conn., the bill expresses support for the designation of Sunday, Feb. 12, 2017, as "Darwin Day" to recognize "the importance of science in the betterment of humanity."

The bill seeks to defend reason, science and advancement of human knowledge, stating that evolution "provides humanity with a logical and intellectually compelling explanation for the diversity of life on Earth." It demands that the advancement of science be protected from those unconcerned with the adverse impacts of global warming and climate change, and concludes that the "teaching of creationism in some public schools compromises the scientific and academic integrity of the United States' education systems."
