Urge the board to revamp county seal!

Raise your secular voice in Lehigh County

Please urge the Lehigh County Board of Commissioners to redesign the county’s Christian seal, which was recently declared unconstitutional by a federal judge.

The board refused to make changes to the seal’s design, which includes a Latin cross, after FFRF complained about its clear endorsement of Christianity on behalf of the county. Last month, a U.S. district judge sided with FFRF and declared it unconstitutional.

The board is scheduled to meet on Wednesday, Oct. 11 — its first convening since the court ruling. The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Public Hearing Room of the Lehigh County Government Center at 17 South Seventh St., Allentown, Pa.

We urge you to raise your secular voice to the commission by attending the meeting if you can, or by contacting board members using the information below. Tell the board that you support the federal ruling and urge it to redesign the seal to be secular, inclusive and uniting.

TAlking points

  • I’m (fill in your name), a secular resident of Lehigh County. I’m calling to vocalize my support for the recent federal ruling declaring the county seal an unconstitutional endorsement of Christianity.
  • The seal’s Latin cross shows a lack of understanding for the enshrined American principle of separation between church and state. The religious symbol is divisive and makes non-Christian citizens, like myself, feel like outsiders in the community.
  • Please comply with the court ruling and redesign the seal to be secular, inclusive and uniting.
