Duncan Henderson, an Auburn, Ala., teen, received the Catherine Fahringer Memorial Youth Activist Award of $1,000 presented on July 2, 2011 at the Lake Hypatia Fourth of July confab at Lake Hypatia, Ala., run by the Alabama Freethought Association and cohosted by FFRF. Duncan, the son of FFRF member Greg Henderson, was recently featured on “Nick News” in a segment about how his attempt to start a freethought club at his middle school was thwarted. Duncan did not give up. His family threatened legal action and it appears he will be permitted to go on and found a freethought club at his high school.
